UPDATE: Since this comic was posted, we received a piece of commentary on the webcomic that we're passing along. It's hard to tell if it's sarcastic or not, but we found it humorous enough to make sure it gets shared (From Shannon):

0: in a Digital Announcement sense, living near a compulsive megaphonist and being subjected to twattle is entirely voluntary and dynamic; you can move away from that person without leaving behind anyone else in your neighborhood

1: a regulatory entity is unlikely to find that digital opt-in updates present a public nuisance and levy civil or criminal penalties for such noise

2: the archival and distributive properties of twitter, plurk, facebook and IM allows data mining these personal ephemeral. Would it be interesting to know that every time you eat grilled cheese and soup you have heartburn 8 hours later, like clockwork? The difference between digital announcements and megaphones is that it’s less likely the megaphone will be recorded and analyzed.

3: with a megaphone, essentially everyone you are reaching, you can see; with digital announcements, the reach can be much further than you expect, both in time and space.

Those are a few of the differences which occur off the top of my head.
