Lesson #1912 - Sports Definitions, Part I
There was a piece in the Globe yesterday along a similar theme that I've read before, that linguists love baseball not necessarily because of the sport (sometimes, certainly despite the sport) but because of the contributions it has made to language and how regional dialects have formed within the sport. This sent me searching through a baseball dictionary, where I came across enough great terms without really even leaving the section for a single letter. I kind of like the opportunity to further entangle the vernacular with some of these terms - especially calling someone a 'bad head'!
Anyway, I need to get a few more baseball comics out this week, what with the World Series approaching, so I can devote STW's focus entirely to Halloween once again.
Oh, and my labcoat is in the wash. A colleague insisted. Nay, she demanded I wash it.
