Surviving the World
A Photocomic Education by Dante Shepherd
Lesson #3024 - Normally
The bright side in all of this depends on how we respond and what good we do from here. One moment of good to do along this line would be to read "March" by John Lewis, the autobiographical graphic novel, to get a good sense of the level of scale and commitment that it can take to fight for what you believe in - I consumed the first two volumes this weekend, and I strongly recommend you do the same.
A reader emailed me the other day asking me to try to focus on other subjects, to allow for some levity and humor - and I'll be honest, I don't really know how to do that yet. STW has always been a comic that exists on the same level as me, which is why the balance of humor and serious subjects is never actually balanced (and is why I make a lot more comics about teaching and parenting now as compared to comics about being in college, funny that). So I'm looking for these moments of good that exist that I can appreciate, and the moments of good that I can do, and maybe I'll find a balance here for STW some day soon. And maybe I won't. But bear with me.
(And education is always a moment of good that you can do. So seriously, go read "March".)
