Surviving the World

Lesson #3081 - Education

And thus the downfall of the public school systems began. Hurray.

If you want my positive take on the matter, it's that there was even this much organized pushback made the nomination vote on DeVos that much closer than it would have been otherwise. Voices were heard. Maybe this will push for more people to become involved in education, in school boards, in teaching?

One of the lessons in all of this is that civic engagement is absolutely necessary for not just the betterment but also the persistence of the whole. And it's a reminder that victories are hard won and no one goes undefeated. We've suffered a lot of defeats lately - so let's keep up the effort and contributions and voices until we start a new winning streak - and then maintain all that effort and contributions and voices so the winning streak is maintained as long as possible.

I'm as disappointed as all of you. Let's do what we can to keep the losses to a minimum.
