Surviving the World

Lesson #3165 - A Full Lesson Plan
Success exists on three axes - hard work, skill, and luck. I think it's incredibly important to teach that last one, in part because so many breakthroughs have occurred through it, but also because students need to learn that success doesn't exist on a plane of hard work and skill alone. There's luck involved, too. And if luck is involved, that means there are some people who do not have any of it, and those people will likely need help to achieve success. And if people need help, then they need others to feel empathetic so that help will be provided. Luck as a concept is thus deeply important. You might be a person without understanding it, but you're not necessarily a human. Teaching luck teaches empathy.
My students are graduating tomorrow morning. I hope I taught them luck.
