The Transcription Project |

Would you like some homework for Surviving the World? Well, hurray for you, 'cause here comes a major way you can help out! So you may know that I use OhNoRobot for the 'random' button option at the top of the page. Well, this also can be used to search an entire archive of a comic for certain terms or phrases based on a transcription of the archive. Which would be really nice to have at this point, so that not only can you find that one comic you really liked that had that one word or something, but I can use it to make sure I haven't already made the comic I'm about to work on! Now, I just don't have the time to go back through and transcribe every single STW comic. But I figure great readers like yourself can help out - if each of you transcribed just a single STW, well, I'd have the entire archive transcribed several times over. So if you guys could help me out, I'd really appreciate it! Here's how this will work: Pick out any comic and write down in a notepad or .txt file what is written on the board and what the pose is like for that comic. For example, if you were transcribing Lesson #1, it would look like this: Blackboard: If the "best years" of your life took place in high school, then, for your sake, I hope you died tragically at nineteen. Pose: Dante, left side of the board, pointing with chalk to the board, neutral look at camera. And that's all! Easy, right? So after you've transcribed several or a bunch or a ton or whatever, email me the file, and I'll add it in to the OhNoRobot software. My hope is I'll be able to have everything up and in the database by the end of October. So we know what the remaining list is, based on items completed, items not completed, and items that people have claimed as their own, I've created a Google doc that everyone can view. Email me what you have, and I'll update the page. If you want to claim a stretch, only do so if you're going to complete it within the next few days. If you want to jump into the middle somewhere, or lay claim to a bunch that you're going to handle, do so and let me know! I'll keep updating that list as transcriptions roll in. Thanks everybody! I think this will be pretty useful for everyone involved. |
